Former CS for Education Prof George Magoha Dies from Cardiac Arrest
The former Cabinet Secretary for Education Prof George Magoha has died from suspected cardiac arrest.
According to reports, the former Education CS’s body is being kept at the Lee Funeral Home as family members and officials from the state arrive from within and outside the country.
Prof George Magoha was in the eyes of many Kenyans a strong leader who executed his duties well.
The deceased had recently gotten a job at Maseno University job just three months after leaving the Ministry of Education.
The current Cabinet Secretary for Education Ezekiel Machogu replaced Prof George Magoha after the current administration came into power.
The Former CS was set to teach and direct research at Maseno University’s medical school.
“Magoha is an invaluable asset to the institution because of his vast experience in the medical field.
“We are lucky as an institution because our School of Medicine is relatively new and it will be a boost to have a strong personality like Magoha in our team,” the University announced in a statement.
Magoha’s entry into academia was his second stint as a lecturer at a higher institution of learning having taught at the University of Nairobi (UoN) where he served as a Urological and Transplant Surgery professor at the College of Health Sciences.
At UoN, Magoha rose through the ranks and was appointed as the Vice Chancellor of the institution in 2005.
Magoha served in that position for a period of ten years until 2015 when he left the position to head the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed him to head the Examiner and rewarded him with the position of Education CS on March 1, 2019, following exemplary service to the state. He was then sworn in officially on the 26th of March 2019.
Before he took up the position at Maseno University, Magoha had revealed that he would like to go into private practice.
“I will miss you, journalists, you played a big role. If you have issues with passing urine, pass by my clinic in Nairobi Hospital,” said Magoha told the press about his plans for retirement back in August 2022.
Funeral arrangements are yet to be planned with family members yet to officially announce the late CS for Education’s demise.
Teachers.co.ke having been toe to toe in every step during Prof George Magoha’s service to the State shares in the sadness of Kenyans across the country for the loss of a great leader.
