Ministry of Education Issues Circular on Changes in NEMIS Data Capture Systems

The Ministry of Education has issued a circular on changes in the National Education Management Information System (NEMIS).

Below is the circular

Office of the Principal Secretary, State Department for Basic Education

RE: CAPTURE OF LEARNERS IN NATIONAL EDUCATION MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM (NEMIS)

The Ministry of Education has made a decision to the effect that NEMIS shall be the singular source of truth in Education data.

It has been noted that private schools have largely neglected the use of NEMIS for the admission of learners. This has made it difficult for the Ministry to validate data from private schools in decision-making.

Going forward, the Kenya National Examination Council will use NEMIS to get learners’ information for the purpose of examination registration. It is therefore in the interest of your members to begin capturing learners’ information in NEMIS.

The purpose of this letter is to inform you that all admissions/transfers of learners from 1 January 2023 will have captured in NEMIS.

Dr. Belio R. Kipsang, CBS

PRINCIPAL SECRETARY
