St. Charles Lwanga Mukumu Announces Staff Layoffs Citing Financial Hardship

St. Charles Lwanga Secondary & Junior School Mukumu in Kakamega County has announced a workforce reduction affecting both teachers and support staff. The decision, communicated via an internal memo signed by the school principal, follows a recent financial audit that revealed deep budgetary constraints.

Two-Month Notice Issued After Financial Audit

According to the memo signed by the Principal and Secretary of the Board of Management (BOM), Bro. Josephat Mandela, the decision was reached after careful consideration and consultation with the board. The audit, which took place on June 15, prompted the board to take drastic measures to align the institution's expenditures with its current financial realities.

“After a Financial Report Audit on 15th June, the school has made the decision to reduce its workforce due to financial constraints,” the circular reads. The affected staff members have been given a two-month notice period from the date of the communication.

Layoffs Not Linked to Performance

Bro. Mandela clarified that the redundancy measures are strictly due to financial challenges and do not reflect the competence or dedication of the employees. The administration expressed gratitude to the staff for their services.

“This decision is in no way a reflection of your performance or commitment. We sincerely appreciate your dedication, hard work, and the valuable contributions you have made during your employment with the school,” the Principal assured the staff.
