Magoha Reveals Number of Teachers Employed under President Uhuru’s Tenure

The Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Education Prof George Magoha has revealed that President Uhuru’s government has recruited more than 120,000 teachers.

CS Magoha was speaking at Mombasa during the Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) conference where he revealed that he was humbled to have worked under President Uhuru.

“I am privileged to serve under President Uhuru. Do not accuse him of not employing teachers. The president has overseen the recruitment of more than 120,000,” said CS Magoha.

Magoha said that President Uhuru is a straightforward leader who does not go backwards on his plans.

“He never turns against his word,” added CS Magoha.

Funding for Education Sector

The CS revealed that the government had allocated Sh. 544 billion to the education sector in the 2022-2023 budget which will be used to complete the pending projects and recruit more teachers.

According to Prof Magoha, the allocation represents 25.9% of the national budget.

Magoha also revealed that his Ministry has implemented the Elimu scholarship program according to directives given by the president while giving priority to urban poor minorities.

The program will help learners who are in need and bright and who sat for the 2021 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education.

The government partnered with Equity Bank in funding education for needy students.

President Uhuru slammed leaders who have been criticizing his administration on various issues without giving a valid solution to those issues.

He said that such leaders should not be in public offices if they are not ready to serve Kenyans by providing solutions to the problems that Kenyans are facing.

“if you are not willing to solve problems and instead keep on crying better, leave leadership and let those who are willing to offer solutions take charge,” said President Uhuru.
