Magoha Urges Schools to Vaccinate Learners
Cabinet Secretary for Education Prof George Magoha has urged schools to vaccinate students under the age of 15 in order to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
According to CS Magoha, the National Government through the Ministry of Health has approved the vaccination of learners under the age of 15 whom he said make up the majority of students in schools.
The CS has revealed that schools should work together with the Department of Health to vaccinate learners in schools for teenagers at their discretion.
While in Kisumu at Maseno School, CS Magoha revealed that the vaccine works and dismissed those who claim that they do not work.
“You students have suffered greatly. we know and appreciate that. However, life has to go on. Others have not just suffered, others have died. I am very happy to see all of you wearing masks and that you are safe. This also goes to the principal that how do I wish you could vaccinate these children if they agree before they go home. The doctors can confirm that it works,” said CS Magoha.
CS Magoha revealed that the school calendar will not be changed because the pandemic is not going anywhere. He advised that getting vaccinated is a great precaution that everybody should embrace.
This comes after the government’s plan to require COVID-19 vaccination evidence in order to access public services was stopped until a petition challenging it is heard and then ruled on.
The Cabinet Secretary Mutahi had announced that by the 21st of December, all Kenyans could have been required to show evidence of vaccination in order to access all public services in person.
The requirement was going to involve a range of public services including schools, immigration transportation and other offices of the state. Hotel bars and restaurants, wildlife reserves and national parks were among them.
