100 Kaplong Girls in Hospital Following School Fire
More than one hundred (100) learners from Kaplong Girls High School were rushed to the hospital following a fire that broke out at the teachers’ quarters on Saturday in Bomet County.
Following the incident, one of the teachers was admitted to St. Clare’s Kaplong Mission Hospital with minor injuries after the fire burnt down 15 teacher houses that were built to act as temporary dwellings.
St. Clare Kaplong Mission Hospital medical superintendent Stanley Kiplagat revealed that no students got burnt.
“No students were burnt or had breathing problems but they are still recovering from the shock,” he said.
Mr Kiplagat revealed that most of the students had been discharged from the hospital on Saturday night and those still in the hospital are suffering from other conditions like chest problems.
School staff and members from the surrounding community tried their best to put the fire out but all their efforts were in vain.
Bomet County Fire Department was not able to reach the school in time due to the poor conditions of the road leading to the school.
Parents who had gotten wind of the situation had rushed to the school and camped at the gate of the school the following day on Sunday as they feared for the lives or the condition of their children. They eagerly waited for information about the safety of their children for hours.
Regarding the cause of the fire, it is alleged that an electric fault is believed to be the what caused the fire outbreak.
