Here is the KUCCPS breakdown on how KCSE 2020 candidates selected courses in the selection process that was closed a few days ago.
According to the placement body, Engineering (civil and electronic), Medicine, dental science, pharmacy, architecture, and actuarial science were the most popular courses in the selections.
Anthropology, Bachelor of Education (Music), Bachelor of Arts (Music), Physical Education, and Ethnobotany were at the bottom of the students’ wish list.
According to KUCCPS, 67,790 students secured placement to degree courses in 31 public universities. A further 11,523 will join middle-level colleges to pursue diploma courses.
Students who attained good grades but picked courses that are competitive in their top three choices ended up not getting any of them.
Very few students opted for artisan and technical courses. These students could miss out on lucrative and high-paying careers like music and film according to the report.
In a music career, one can carve out a career as a professional voice coach, as a singer, an instrument player, a trainer of a musical technician.
However, it should be noted that hard work and dedication will still be required for one to prove to be a success.
The film industry for instance has received a huge boost with big companies like Multichoice investing heavily in it. They have even gone a step further and offered training as well as funding the production of the films.
Veronica Onjoro, a Ph. D student at the Mt. Kenya University has implored the government to invest in sensitization programs on career paths to help students.
