Former Principal Wins Parliamentary Seat
Peter Ochieng Orero has come out on top winning the Kibra parliamentary sear after defeating incumbent Imran Okoth and former football player McDonald Mariga.
Peter Ochieng Oreto is commonly known as Mwalimu Orero.
Mwalimu Orero a former Dagoretti High School Principal, won 33,008 votes against Mariga’s 20,049 votes. On the hand, Imran came third with 18,901 votes.
Orero was issued his certificate on Thursday morning by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Returning Officer for Kibra Constituency at the Upperhill Secondary School.
Orero, as a high school teacher, taught at Kamukunji Secondary School, Langata High School, Upper Hill and his current station Dagoretti High school located in Nairobi.
In an interview conducted on a local radio station, Orero revealed that he helped many football stars like Dennis Oliech, Victor Wanyama, Jamal Mohammed and even McDonald Mariga vied against him for the seat in the National Assembly.
“I have mentored stars like Dennis Oliech, Victor Wanyama, Jamal Mohammed, McDonald Mariga, Patrick Oboya. I even paid for their school fees,” said Orero.
Orero also served as the chairperson of the Kenya Secondary School Sports Association (KSSSA).
