Shock as Teacher Commits Suicide in Kisii
Omosobwa village in Bomachoge Borabu Constituency located in Kisii County was in shock after a secondary school teacher allegedly committed suicide.
According to family members, the deceased had had supper on Tuesday evening and then went to sleep in his house. The following day he took a long time to wake up raising suspicion from his mother who sent her younger son to check on him.
However, he found the door locked and elected to call other family members who forced the door open and to their horror, found the body of the teacher dangling from the ceiling by a mosquito net.
His family members reported that the 26-year-old teacher Thomas Kiyondi who had been teaching at St. Peters Keberesi Secondary School had been living a lonely life since his wife left him just over a year ago.
Police officers from Kenyenya arrived at the house and removed the body and took it to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital for postmortem and further investigations.
The school principal Mr Maeri said that the teacher was a responsible teacher who loved his job.
The teachers passing comes barely three days after another secondary school teacher had committed suicide with claims that he wanted to relieve himself of the pain of cancer, asthma and high blood pressure that troubled him for more than 15 years.
The deceased, Mr Evans Nyangweso Ochari had written an apology note to his wife before committing suicide where he implored her to take care of their children and his elderly mother.
With the recent events, Pastor George Michira who is based in Kisii urged counsellors in the area to hold awareness campaigns and sensitize people on coping with social challenges.
He appealed to residents to be resilient towards life itself instead of taking their lives and traumatizing their families.
