Dr Nancy Macharia is the TSC CEO, Not Leaving Any Soon
Following a lot of pressure from teachers and online platforms for Dr. Nancy Macharia to step down from being the CEO of TSC, all those who have been having the hope of this happening are going to have to make do with her until her first term is over at the least in June.
The rumor that has been doing rounds is that Dr. Mulunda, the TSC deputy commissioner who was appointed to the position in December 2019 is set to rise to Dr. Nancy Macharia’s position.
Before being appointed at TSC, Dr. Mulunda was the Head of Human Resource at Huduma Kenya. However, that is not to be as Dr. Nancy Macharia will stay until June at the least. She could probably be allowed to extend her tenure for another five years.
Dr. Nancy Macharia has been under pressure also based on her personal life which to some is not befitting of a leader of the Teachers’ Service Commission. This is in part due to rumors of an affair she is suspected to be having with a senior judicial officer who likes quoting Bible verses. Besides, she is said to be behind the disharmony between KNUT and KUPPET.
She is reported to have written a letter to the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) whereby she gave them a two-month ultimatum to stop a recognition agreement since existing 1968, saying that the union does not have enough members to sustain its legitimacy. She has always tried to silence the voice of the teachers through their unions and now KNUT and KUPPET do not get along.
The Kenya Women Teachers Association (KEWOTA) was also allowed by Dr. Nancy Macharias entourage to deduct Ksh. 200 from teachers’ salaries in order to enable the progress of female teachers’ agendas. Complaints to TSC and KEWOTA were unsuccessful as some teachers feel they were forced without consent over the deduction.
Despite all the murmuring and rumors, Dr. Nancy Macharia CEO of TSC will stay till June at the least and she is likely to stay a further five years based on how good she has done her work. Fasten your seat belts.
