TSC announces openings for 2,927 primary and 927 secondary school replacements

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced the availability of 3,854 replacements for primary and secondary schools to replace teachers who left the service.

In the TSC’s advert, 2,927 posts are for primary schools while 927 posts will go to secondary schools.

TSC also advertised 5,000 job openings. Of these, TSC has allocated 1,000 posts are for practising P1 teachers who hold a Bachelor’s degree alongside having attained a mean grade of C+ (plus) in their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).

P1 teacher applicants who will be successful will be deployed to teach in secondary schools.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has instructed interested individuals to submit their applications online via the TSC website: www.tsc.go.ke under the Careers or teachersonline.tsc.go.ke. The applications should be made online not later than the 12th of July, 2021.

Most teachers on internship are hoping that they are confirmed as replacements.

In 2020, TSC did not automatically confirm intern teachers but only awarded them 10 marks for working with the Commission as interns.

The Teachers Service Commission is declaring 5,000 vacancies in secondary schools to support the 100 percent transition from primary to secondary schools. The teachers recruited will serve on Permanent and Pensionable terms of service.

Interested and qualified candidates should submit their applications online through the Commission’s website www.tsc.go.ke under ‘Çareers’ or teacheronline.tsc.go.ke not later than 12th July, 2021.

A. RECRUITMENT OF SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHES (4000 POSTS)

To qualify for recruitment, a candidate should meet the following basic requirement:

  1. Be a Kenyan Citizen
  2. Must be a holder of at least a Diploma in Education;
  3. Must be a registered teacher with the Teachers Service Commission.

B. PROMOTION AND DEPLOYMENT OF PRACTISING TEACHERS IN PUBLIC PRIMARY SCHOOLS (1000 POSTS)

To qualify for promotion and deployment to secondary school, a candidate should meet the following basic requirements:

  1. Be a Kenyan Citizen;
  2. Be a holder of a P1 certificate;
  3. Be a holder of a Bachelor’s Degree with 2 teaching subjects;
  4. Must have attained at Least C+ (Plus) mean grade at Kenya Certificate of Secondary Eduation (KCSE) or its equivalent and C+ (plus) or its equivalent in the two teaching subjects;
  5. Must be serving under the Teachers Service Commission.

Successful candidates under this category shall be appointed at T-Scale 7, Grade C2 under the Career Progression Guidelines for Teachers and shall be deployed to secondary schools where vacancies exist.

C. RECRUITMENT OF PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHERS (1000 POSTS)

To qualify for recruitment, a candidate should meet the following basic requirements:

  1. Be a Kenyan Citizen;
  2. Must be a holder of a P1 certificate;
  3. Must be a registered teacher with the Teachers Service Commission.

Successful candidates will be posted to serve in any part of the country and not necessarily in the county where they were recruited.

D. General information

Please note that:

  1. To qualify for appointment on permanent and pensionable terms of service, a candidate should be eligible  to serve for a minimum period of ten (10) continuous years, effective from the date of first appointment as required by law;
  2. The Teachers Service Commission Recruitment Guidelines 2020/2021 shall apply;
  3. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted;
  4. Shortlisted candidates will be required to produce original professional and academic certificates;
  5. Successful candidates must not fill more than one Application for Employment Form. Filling of two or more Application for Employment Forms will lead to disqualification;
  6. Manual applications will not be accepted;
  7. Preference will be given to applicants who have not previously been employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
