All You Need To Know About 2020 KNEC Training of Examiners for KCPE, KCSE, PTE, ECDE, and DTE

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) conducts the training of teachers or tutors in order to prepare them to be able to mark the national examinations.

Every year, KNEC overseas doing of the following national examinations.

  1. Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE)
  2. Early Childhood Development Education – Profiency (ECDE) and Diploma in Teacher Education (DTE) examinations
  3. Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE)
  4. Primary Teacher Education (PTE)

The duties stated above mean that KNEC has to train individuals who can be examiners every year so that examiners mark examinations according to the standards set by KNEC.

Each individual who aspires to be a KNEC examiner has to pay the training fee of Ksh. 10, 500 through KNEC’s MPESA Pay Bill number: 819313 using their own registered mobile number. For the Account Number the applicant will have to indicate the applicable examination. For instance, you can indicate KCPE, DTE, KCSE, PTE, Business, or Technical.

The applicant MUST write the MPESA Reference Number on the application form in the provided spaces.

Qualified applicants will undergo training to mark the above-mentioned national examinations. KNEC will then incorporate candidates who will be successful into their database. After this, KNEC will engage examiners using the criteria for recruitment of examiners depending on the needs.

However, if you are a trained examiner and you are already in the KNEC database, you do not need to apply for KNEC’s training.

Qualification to join the Examiners Training Programme

The following are the requirements you need to meet in order to qualify to train to be a KNEC Examiner;

  1. You must be a registered teacher (by the Teacher Service Commission -TSC)
  2. You must be 50 years of age or below to be eligible
  3. You must be a practicing teacher in the relevant subject areas at the level of examination.
  4. Your head of the institution must recommend you.
  5. You must have a minimum teaching experience of three years (3)

KCSE and KCPE specific qualification

  1. You must have trained in Special Needs Education if you are to training for English SNE.
  2. You must have a minimum qualification of P1 for the KCPE examination with ar least a C+ at KCSE level in the subject you are applying to train.

Have a minimum qualification of P1 for KCPE examination with a minimum of C (Plain) at KCSE level in the subject they are applying to train.

If you wish to train to be an examiner in ECDE examination, you MUST have a minimum of Diploma in the relevant area of specialization and have at least one (1) academic level above the qualification of the examination you are applying to train.

  1. If you wish to apply as an examiner in the areas we have already mentioned, you need to access the online form by clicking here.
  2. Next, you fill in the required details and then print.
  3. After this, remember to fill in sections 2.0 and 4.0 manually.
  4. Attach the testimonials listed in the form of an application.
  5. Forward the form to KNEC.

Shortlisting will be for only Teacher/Tutors who have presented the required documents for training.
