TSC Could Sack Teacher Who Walks 20 Km to Deliver Exams as Principal Is Summoned
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has issued a SHOW CAUSE LETTER to a teacher who walks 20km trips to deliver KCSE examinations to 18 candidates in a school located in Trans Mara East, Narok County.
The teacher was asked to record a statement of her story that was published in ‘The Nation’ newspaper concerning her situation.
The Principal Ms. Magdalene Njoki Kimani was delocalized and covers a distance of roughly 20 km every day. By the time the KCSE examinations will be completed, she might cover a whopping 320 kilometers.
”The story moved the whole nation and made everybody realize the inhumane policies at the Teachers Service Commission,” said Amunga.
After the publishing of her story in ‘The Nation’ newspaper, the Teachers Service Commission acted immediately by seeking to distort the story.
She was forced to get her team and education officials to deny and do what she was told to do.
As a result, TSC officers and other officials from the Ministry of Education summoned the principal, asking her to explain why she spoke to the media and allowed journalists to go with her on one of her 20 km trips.
The Sosiana High School Principal is said to not be allowed to speak to journalists since she has no authority to do so.
“With KESSHA being turned to a government tool and KUPPET compromised, do teachers have any channels their issues can be listened to?” asked Amunga.
Trans-Mara County Director Steve Gachie argued that the teacher only does 9 kilometers a day. The Daily Nation’s story claims to put the teacher in trouble as she was instructed to explain from what point to what point the 20 kilometers run. If not she could get fired.
“Teachers do not only suffer walking long distances in Kenya to teach. They suffer from selfish bad policies from their employer,” said Amunga.
