DO NOT Raise Secondary School Fees – MoE Warns Principals
The Ministry of Education has today warned Schoolheads and Principals not to increase Secondary School fees for the year 2020.
Through the ministry’s digital communication platform, the warning stated that “the ministry of Education has not asked Secondary Schools to raise School fees”.
The Ministry says that the 2019 school fees guidelines are still in force in the year 2020.
“Any School that increases School fees should be reported to the Ministry”, ends the communication.
The warning to heads of secondary schools about fees increment comes barely four days before the schools open for term one of the 2020 school calendar.
Education CS Gave School Principals Power to Charge Parents Extra Fees
At the start of 2019, school Principals through their association KESSHA started demanding for an increase in school fees charges in secondary schools.
KESSHA claimed that the Ministry of Education was slashing more than half of the funds that are allocated as the Free Day Secondary Education, FDSE.

Prof George Magoha, while addressing the KEPSHA delegates conference on 3rd of December 2019, gave the school heads greenlight to charge parents extra levies.
The Education CS was very categorical in his speech as he said the School Principals could levy parents only for the establishment and improvement of schools’ infrastructure.
Parents Protest Increased Secondary School Fees
Several parents have continued to complain of increased hidden charges by schools.
The parents complain that some schools have devised methods of collecting money from them even without the Ministry’s head office approvals.
