TSC’s Statement after Student Attacks and Injures Principal

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has issued a statement condemning the incident at Ainamoi Secondary School whereby a student attacked and injured the Principal Mr. Geoffrey Rono with a 4-inch nail attached to a board.

TSC condemned the incident and raised alarm over the increased incidences of violence towards teachers.

“We wish to call upon all stakeholders to do all that is within their means to ensure that schools are safe for conducive learning and teaching. We must all work to stop violence in schools. TSC is determined to ensure that teachers are able to deliver on their duties,” read the TSC statement.

The form three boy is alleged to have attacked and hammered his principal with a 4-inch nail on the head.

According to the Police Commander in Kericho County, the principal had instructed the student to collect his fees arrears, and then the boy attacked him as he was going home.

After the attack, the principal of Ainamoi Secondary school was rushed to a medical center where he was attended to and later allowed to go home to recuperate.

The school head has since resumed his duties in school and the weapon used in the attack has since been recovered.

The police are undertaking investigations into the matter.

“We are looking for the culprit who did not report back to his parent’s home after the incident. Preliminary investigations indicate that the student attacked the teacher at around 6 pm at his office and fled after inflicting serious injuries to the head,” said a police officer to the media.
