TSC to Recruit 6,000 Intern Teachers to Primary and Secondary Schools

According to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Chief Executive Officer Dr. Nancy Macharia, the Commission is going to recruit 6,000 teachers following the completion of the recruitment exercise of the TSC vacancies that were announced recently.

The TSC CRO also revealed that the Treasury had set aside Sh. 2.5 billion to recruit teachers in the 2021/22 financial year.

TSC will allow internship slots in various schools on the 2nd of August for interested applicants to submit applications via the online platform of the commission i.e. the TSC portal vial the link https://hrmis.tsc.go.ke/ as between 4th to 18th August 2021.

Teachers who will have been successful will then be required to report to their respective stations by the 15th of August 2021.

“The exercise is intended to reduce the burden of handling the expected increase in enrolment. Eligible registered but unemployed teachers should look out for the applications next month,” read part of Macharia’s statement.

There are more than 100,000 teachers who have been trained on the implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in grade 5 and more teachers are also set to undergo training. This is after the Treasury allocated Ksh. 1 billion for the training exercise in the 2021/2022 financial year.

The Treasury had elected not to allocate any funds initially for the implementation of the CBC but did so after the House Budget and Appropriations Committee raised alarm over the same. Kien MP, Kanini Kega was the one leading the House Budget Committee.

However, the Treasury allocated Sh. 2.5 billion to cover the recruitment of more than 5,000 teachers.

Sh. 1.8 billion was also allocated to improve the conditions and support the educational achievements as well as the school feeding program.

The Treasury also recognized the need to address online learning as the COVID-19 pandemic made it clear that online learning is a necessity by allocating Sh. 420 million for the digital literacy program and the integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in secondary schools.
