TSC Set To Employ 6,000 Interns and 5,000 Teachers On Permanent and Pensionable Terms

TSC to hire 5,000 teachers on Permanent and Pensionable Terms with 6,000 set to take up the internship slots in the 2021/2022 financial year.

TSC Chief Executive Officer Dr.  Nancy Macharia said yesterday that additional employees would help ease the workload with the numbers of students rising. The workload on teachers has increased even further with the government‘s 100 percent transition of learners from primary to secondary schools.

The National Treasury allocated the Commission Sh. 2.5 billion for the purpose of recruiting 5,000 teachers.

“We appreciate the government for allocating TSC funds annually for the recruitment of additional teachers since the 100 percent transition program was launched,” said the TSC CEO during the release of the results of Form One selection.

Macharia said that the positions of teacher recruitment will take the total number of teachers under the Commission’s employment to 335,671, from the current 330,671.

There is also the reason for unemployed but registered teachers to get excited as TSC will also hire 6,000 intern teachers at a cost of Sh. 1.2 billion.

“This is a commendable government effort to ensure quality learning and teaching in our public schools,” said Dr. Nancy Macharia.

Concerning, the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) expires this coming month, the TSC chairperson recognized the government’s effort of disbursing annual tranches of the Sh. 54 billion meant to implement the CBA.

Dr. Macharia said that the CBA helped in making salaries of teachers better especially when compared to their colleagues in the public and private sectors in the region.

Macharia also revealed that TSC began laying the foundation for a new CBA in the year 2019 when they started talks with trade unions.

The talks sensitized teachers on the new requirements for the negotiations on the increase of salary.

“The unions have also presented proposals to us, which we have studied.

“We are now awaiting advice from the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) on the best way to proceed based on the ongoing job evaluations,” said the TSC CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia.

Macharia implored teachers to stay calm with the Commission waiting for the recommendations of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).
