TSC Happy With the High Rate of COVID-19 Vaccine Uptake
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) CEO Nancy Macharia said yesterday that the Commission has been impressed with the rate at which teachers have taken the COVID-19 vaccine jab.
“We are impressed with the high rate of the COVID-19 vaccine uptake consulting 48.9 percent females and 51 percent males,” said Dr. Nancy Macharia.
According to the TSC CEO as of May 8th 151, 494 teachers had undergone vaccination and she implored more teachers to take the jab. To ease the financial burden on teachers, Dr. Macharia said that TSC had provided full medical cover for ailments that are related ailments.
Besides, according to Macharia, through AON Minet, TSC has a medical insurance app called “Walimucare App” which allows teachers to gain access via telemedicine.
Macharia also revealed that the Ministry of Health has accepted TSC’s request to open up a vaccination center at the Headquarters of TSC.
While speaking during the release of the examination results for the 2020 Kenya Certificate of Secondary education (KCSE), Macharia revealed that 37 teachers in secondary schools have died due to Covid-19.
Among the 37 teachers who passed on are 24 principals, three deputy principals, and 10 class teachers.
As far as examination malpractice is concerned, the TSC boss said that the Commission had decided to launch a transparent process that entails Biometric Enrolment and Validation of Teachers in all public schools.
“This will entail enlisting of fingerprints which will then allow forensic and intelligence-led investigations in cases where examination papers are tampered with and also where cell phones and other gadgets are used to commit malpractices,” she said.
Macharia also said that the rollout of the biometric capture of all teachers is in the final stages of consultations with the Office of the Data Commissioner.
