A looming crisis in schools has TSC worried after it was revealed that at least 25,000 teachers are going to retire over the next two years (that is by the year 2022) and most of these are heads of schools.
In 2020, the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Teachers (KUPPET) revealed that according to a report half of the 25,000 teachers are above 59 years and were set to retire in June 2021.
“Our finding is that as of November 2020, the teaching service has 25,000 teachers aged 58 and above. This means that Kenya is in a deep crisis of shortage of teachers and this calls for radical measures to address the issue,” revealed Akello Misori, the KUPPET secretary-general.
