Thousands Set To Resit As KNEC Releases PTE 2020 Certificates
PTE certificates are now available for candidates who sat for the Primary Teacher Education Examination (PTE) in the year 2020.
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has released certificates and are now ready to be collected even though there were huge doubts over the results which the examiner released this year.
KNEC released the PTE results this February and later recalled them and hence creating confusion to the candidates who had at that time already received the results from their respective colleges.
It was revealed that there were so many quality grades especially Distinctions which raised doubts over whether the results were really authentic.
Many candidates did well in English and Mathematics which is not a usual thing in PTE examinations.
However, after adjusting students who scored a distinction were affected as they were pushed to Credit pass instead. The number of quality grades reduced in the respective subjects.
KNEC has since released a timetable for candidates who failed in some subjects to re-sit the examinations.
Resits have been set to start on Tuesday the 13th of July 2021 as candidates take practicals and the Kenya Sign Language expressive skills.
The rehearsals will happen on Monday the 12th of July and the sit for Mathematics paper 1, Sciences and Art and Craft Paper 1 on Wednesday the 14th of July 2021.
The 2020 candidates are the last group to sit for the PTE examinations as the Ministry of Education removed the P1 course and replaced it with the Diploma for Primary Teacher Education (DPTE).
The Ministry of Education also replaced the ECDE certificate and Diploma and introduced the Early Childhood Development Education (DECDE) which replaces the regular ECDE certificate and Diploma.
However, with the high academic qualifications that applicants have to meet, officials from the Ministry of Education have experienced challenges in getting candidates to join the Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs) in the first and second intakes.
Ministry Of Education’s Minimum Admission Requirements for the Diploma in Primary Teacher Education in Kenya
The following are the minimum requirements for admission to Diploma in Primary Teacher Education in Kenya.
- A KCSE Mean Grade of C (Plain) with a C (plain) in the following cluster subjects.
- English
- Kiswahili
- Mathematics
- Humanities (Any one subject);
- Sciences (Any one subject) in pure or technical and applied sciences.
- For candidates with disabilities the minimum entry grade is C- (Minus) and a C – (Minus) in the cluster of subjects stated above.
To complete the course a candidate will take in three (3) years as per the approved Curriculum designs.
In a consultative meeting held in Machakos this year involving Principals of Teacher Training Colleges, officials from the Ministry of Education, and other stakeholders of education, it was revealed that only 1400 applicants qualified to join the Early Childhood Development Education (DECDE) and the Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE) in June 2021.
The students were then distributed to six Public Teacher Training Colleges. These colleges comprised of Machakos TTC in Machakos, Thogoto TTC in Kiambu, Shanzu TTC in Mombasa, Baringo TTC in Baringo, Egoji TTC in Meru, and Migori TTC in Meru which they joined on the 2nd of June 2021.
The first group of trainees from these colleges is going to entirely teach the Competency-Based Curriculum.
