Magoha Gives Padlocks to All 479 Containers for KCPE and KCSE Examinations

Cabinet Secretary for Education George Magoha has launched the 2020 national examinations. The CS also officiated the issuing of security padlocks for the 479 containers ahead of this year’s KCPE and KCSE examinations.

Deputy County Commissioners and the Sub-County Directors received the padlocks during the ceremony yesterday.

“As part of the Multisectoral Approach to the administration of national examinations, we are all assembled here this morning because the success or failure of this important exercise depends on all of us.

“And since we have no option for failure, I urge all of us to firmly commit that we will play our roles with lots of military precision to ensure we achieve the highest levels of success in this examinations,” he said.

Prof Magoha implored everybody involved in the administration of the examinations to comply strictly with the Ministry of Health’s COVID-19 protocols. The Ministry of Education had been enforcing the protocols in schools since schools reopened fully in January 2021.

He emphasized that Centre Managers who do not put on face masks should not turn up at any examination container to collect or drop off examinations.

Besides, all officials attending services at the examination centers shall be expected to use hand sanitizers or wash hands before they are allowed to do handle any examination materials.

All officials at examination centers will have to wash hands or sanitize before opening examination scripts when distributing to candidates.

Before frisking candidates, all examination officials must use sanitizers or wash their hands.

“To this end, I urge all of us to e mindful of our candidates, some of whom are in one way or another affected by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. We must all take cognizant of the environment of the 2020 examinations and give hope to all candidates by assuring them that none of them will be disadvantaged in the examination process,” said Prof. George Magoha.

The ministry is also with the knowledge that some center managers are planning to retain teachers under the Board of Management employment in schools to help in cheating.

The examination centers having such plans have been identified. They are being monitored closely. It is important for all of us to ensure that all headteachers and other persons steer a credible examination process in 2020,” said CS Magoha.
