Interns allowed to apply for TSC Replacement Vacancies

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has allowed intern teachers to participate in the January 2022 recruitment drive for TSC replacement vacancies.

The Commission advertised 892 posts for secondary schools and some 2053 posts for primary schools. The slots are available for intern and non-intern teachers with the period that interns have served not a problem.

TSC advertised the availability of 1,995 intern teachers to schools.

The Commission’s internship program and their recruitment were in following with the Government’s initiative of creating a pool of young talents for the Kenyan Labor Market.

According to TSC’s policy, it wants to see that teachers are staffed properly. The Commission is working in tandem with the Ministry of Education to ensure that enough teachers are recruited via the recruitment of 5,000 teachers every year and engaging intern teachers.

4,005 intern teachers saw their internship extended for an extra year in December. TSC employs at least 6,000 intern teachers every year.

Intern teachers who are attached to primary schools earn a monthly stipend of Kshs. 15,000 while those in secondary schools earn Kshs. 20,000.

In 2020 the Commission did not confirm teachers on permanent terms automatically. However, the intern teachers were with luck as the Commission awarded them 10 marks for their sacrifice in their service with the TSC.

In the new score sheet meant to guide the recruitment of teachers in July 2021, TSC directed 30 marks to be awarded to applicants who will be required to provide “evidence of internship service”.
