CS Magoha Orders Search For Pregnant Girls Yet To Return To Schools

Education CS George Magoha has directed the search for pregnant school-going girls yet to report to school.

While in Bungoma yesterday, CS Magoha said that it was a MUST for children to get back to school. He ordered chiefs and other Interior officials to ensure that the girls are brought back to school.

“Pregnancy should not be treated as a disease. We are calling upon Interior Ministry officials to look for the girls and ensure they are given proper counseling and return them to school,” said the CS.

Prof George Magoha visited Bungoma DEB Secondary School which is the largest in the country after Olympic that is located in Nairobi’s Kibera slum.

The CS praised schools that have allowed learners to study outside as an innovative move in tents or under trees to maintain social distancing due to the novel coronavirus.

“We appreciate schools that are innovating to ensure learners continue their education,” said the Education CS.

The CS said that the Ministry is happy that more than 80 percent of learners have returned to school so far.

Magoha also revealed that the government had provided enough desks and asked those who tenders to deliver desks by Monday.

“We are calling upon our officers to ensure proper paperwork is done so that payment is not delayed,” said Magoha.

According to Magoha, the government knows that artisans have suffered but at the moment of writing this article, Sh 500 million has been paid.

The CS warned again that school heads should avoid sending learners home for a lack of fees, saying that they should be considerate because of the economic hardship that has been caused by COVID-19.

“For primary and secondary schools, we should not even have any debate. No one should send learners home because the government has already sent money to schools,” said Magoha.

The CS revealed that the government has released Sh 4 Billion to primary schools and secondary schools received Sh 14.6 Billion.
