Construction of CBC Classrooms at 60%
The Cabinet Secretary for Education Prof George Magoha has revealed that construction of the classrooms meant for the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) is at 60 per cent.
The current government is set to be phased out with elections set to be held next week on the 9th of August 2022.
However, CS Magoha revealed that the government through his ministry is committed to completing the remaining 40% per cent of the CBC classrooms before the new administration takes over.
While at Ituuru Boys High School located in Gatundu South, Magoha commissioned the second phase of the CBC classroom where he insisted that he will continue inspecting the construction of the classrooms until a new Head of State is in office.
Magoha said that even after the country gets a new president-elect, he will still continue rendering his services until the time comes when he hands over the ministry to the next Cabinet Secretary.
“It takes fourteen days to wait whether a presidential contender will go to court over election disputes or not. During the two weeks, I will still be working unless Kenyans tell me otherwise. Until another president is sworn in, we will continue to work. I am doing this for the love of our children,” said Magoha.
CS Magoha said that the 10,000 CBC classrooms were done at the rate of Kshs. 798,000 as compared to the normal classrooms which take 1.2 million will be part of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s (the current Head of State) legacy.
“We are on course but there is work to be done and this is why we continue to inspire our officers to lead both from the back and front. This will be a very important legacy statement by the President who is completing his term,” said President Magoha.
CS Magoha said that the country is adequately prepared to implement the CBC stating that both assessment and training of teachers have been done.
“Books for grade seven are going to be in schools in due course. It is a done deal when it comes to CBC preparedness,” added Magoha.
Regarding the ending of his term, Magoha asked for forgiveness from persons he may have wronged during his term of service saying that under President Kenyatta’s tenure, the government has saved Kshs. 4 billion in constructing classrooms.
“In my term of service, I have blocked quite a number of channels which were previously normalized to siphon money but that is water under the bridge,” added the CS.
