Selection of Courses for Form 4 Students Commences
Form Four Students all over the country have started selecting courses that they want to pursue in universities and colleges next year under government sponsorship.
This has been made possible by the opening of the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) schools portal for applications.
According to KUCCPS Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr Mercy Wahome, students should make their applications in order to benefit from career guidance from their teachers who have been trained by the KUCCPS on the process.
S from July 2022, KUCCPS has sensitized 43,079 secondary school students from 92 schools in 29 counties and has trained 4,505 career teachers working in 45 counties on career guidance.
“All secondary schools shall collect, collate and submit through the School Portal on behalf of their candidates to universities and Colleges following the procedure given on the website,” said Wahome.
Applications started on September 19, 2022, and shall close on the 30th of November 2022. This is according to a letter from KUCCPS issued to all principals of secondary schools.
Each candidate is required to pay an application fee of Kshs. 500 through their schools. The minimum admission requirements for Degree programmes is C+, Diploma is C-, Craft Certificate is D and Artisan Certificate D- (Minus) and below in the KCSE.
“This is the best time for the students to interact with KUCCPS officers and seek guidance as they choose courses,” said Wahome.
The KUCCPS placement criteria are based on merit and affirmative action with Principals required to collect and collate the candidate’s email and telephone contact details and submit them with the applications.
“In conformity with the provisions of the Constitution of Kenya 2010, KUCCPS applies affirmative action criteria based on gender, marginalized and disability criteria. Only those candidates who apply through the KUCCPS portal will be considered for government sponsorship,” said Wahome.
At the same time, KUCCPS is carrying out guidance activities in secondary schools to enable the placement service to reach the students with placement information in future.
Besides, Dr Wahome revealed that applicants should visit KUCCPS service desks in the Huduma Centres for career guidance and other important placement information.
The KUCCPS service desks in Huduma Centres are available in Nairobi (GPO), Mombasa, Kisumu, Nyeri, Garissa, Kitui, Eldoret, Kakamega, Meru, Kitale, Thika, Isiolo, Narok, Laikipia and Nakuru.
Alternatively, they can visit the KUCCPS website via the link www.kuccps.ac.ke and/or send an email to the placement service’s CEO through ceo@kuccps.ac.ke
