Students of 2016 Backwards who scored C+ to be admitted to University

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has announced that they have now allowed students who scored grade C+ and below from 2016 backwards to be admitted to public universities.

The move is set to benefit those learners to enjoy funds issued by the Higher Education Loans Boards (HELB).

In the years leading to 2016, the Joint Admissions Board (JAB) was charged with placing students in institutions of higher learning and allowed learners with a KCSE Mean Score of B (Plain) to join public universities. If a student had a disability or was disadvantaged, they were allowed to join universities with a mean grade of B (Minus).

This meant that those learners who scored C+ (Plus) were left out of university admission via government sponsorship and had to pay all fees on their own in the parallel program. Others chose to join Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions. This also applied to those students who could not afford fees for self-sponsored programmes.

In another article published on Teacher.co.ke, KUCCPS released Circular on Review of the placement criteria to degree and TVET programmes

The details on the circular are shown below.
