Magoha Pushes Reopening of Schools to Monday, August 15th
The Ministry of Education has announced new dates for reopening following the General Elections held yesterday.
The Cabinet Secretary announced the closure of schools on the 2nd of August 2022 and set the opening dates on the 10th of August 2022.
“As you are aware, Kenya is scheduled to conduct its national elections on Tuesday 9 August 2022. Therefore, following consultation, I hereby convey the Government’s decision on the immediate closure of all basic education institutions from Tuesday 2 until Wednesday 10 August to ensure that preparations for the conduct of upcoming elections are carried out seamlessly,” said Prof Magoha last week.
However, following revelations that results will not be announced at least after a few days following the general elections the government has pushed the reopening of schools until next week.
“Following further consultations, I hereby convey the Government’s decision that Basic Education Institutions will reopen from Monday,” said CS Magoha.
“I ordered the early closure of all Basic Education Institutions to allow for adequate preparation and conduct of the General Elections. We indicated that reopening would be on the 11th of August 2022. However, the Ministry has been informed that the process of tallying ballots may still be ongoing on the aforementioned date,” added Magoha.
