Form 4 Graduate Fakes Being Qualified Engineer, Wins Engineers Job

An individual by the name of Ferdinand Wamalwa Wenani was arraigned in court on Thursday the 22nd of April 2021 for practicing as a qualified engineer without a valid license.

Mr. Ferdinand Wamalwa Wenani’s case was heard at the Milimani Law Courts. He had studied up to Form Four and on February the 14th applied for an advertised tender to construct a section of a dormitory at Kamuriai Secondary School in Teso North, Busia County.

Wamalwa then presented himself at the school as a qualified engineer on the cover of director of Starlem International Limited. The court was informed that Starlem International Limited is the company that won the tender.

The 36-year-old then accepted the construction tender in February 2018 with the work billed at Sh. 700,000.

He was given Sh. 500,000 upfront for the job and was promised the rest (Sh. 200,000) would be disbursed to his bank account once the job was completed.

The court was told that the suspect had presented himself as Engineer Ferdinand Walamwa.

As Wamalwa was constructing the dormitory section, Engineer Levi, the real owner of Starlem International Limited, got knowledge that his company had won a tender to construct the dormitory at Kamuriai Secondary School.

To his surprise, Engineer Okabusu discovered that Wamalwa who was not working with his Starlem International Limited Company was the one in charge of the construction work.

Okabusu then informed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers who then nabbed the suspect after finding out that he was not registered with the Engineers Board of Kenya. Mr. Ferdinand Wamalwa did not even have a valid practicing certificate.

An investigation officer revealed that the suspect had only gone as far as Form Four level.

The suspect denied the charges before Magistrate Bernard Ochoi and was then released on an Sh. 100,000 cash bail or an Sh. 400,000 bond.

Mr. Wamalwa’s case will be heard on the 6th of May 2021.
