These are the changes PS Kipsang has made to KPSEA, KCPE and KCSE Examination Dates
The Ministry of Education (MoE) has announced changes to the start and end dates for the academic year as well as the dates when the national examinations will be done in the current academic year.
The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) have been rescheduled for the period between the 30th of October and the 2nd of November 2023. This is according to a circular released and signed by the Principal Secretary for Education Dr Belio Kipsang.
The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) Examinations are set to start on the 3rd of November 2023 and end on the 24th of November 2023. Previously it had been announced that the KCSE examinations will take place between November 10 and the 1st of December 1.
This week, the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) issued a warning over the slow process of registering KCSE candidates who are expected to sit for this year’s national examinations.
The Council’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) David Njengere said that since the portal was opened on the 1st of February, the number of candidates captured was still low.
He said that the registration exercise for the 2023 KCSE and KCPE examinations had commenced.
“Registration is a very critical stage in examination administration. I appeal to all headteachers and principals to register the candidates at the earliest time and avoid the last-minute rush,” said David Njengere.
Njengere also urged parents to take a keen interest in their children’s registration for the examinations.
“Parents should also take interest to confirm that their children are registered,” said Njengere.
Njengere said that students and pupils interested in sitting for this year’s national examinations have ONLY two months to register with KNEC.
“With regard to registration of candidates for the 2023 KCPE and KCSE, KNEC opened the portal for institutions to commence uploading of candidates’ data from February 1 which will end on March 30, 2023,” said Njengere.
This year’s KCPE and KCSE examination registration will be the last to be administered under the 8-4-4 system.
Changes in Holidays and Half-Term Breaks
According to the changes, the prolonged break will start on April 22, 2023, with the half term being between the 16th and 19 of March 2023.
Students will resume after the holidays on the 8th of May for the second half of the 14-week Term 2 following a break between the 29th of June and the 2nd of July 2023. After that, there will be a two-week holiday for schools from August 12 till August 27.
After the two-week holiday students will resume on the 28th of August, and the Third Term will begin. Because of this, there will be no half-term break during the term which will come to an end on the 27th of October, 2023.
KCPE and KPSEA examinations will follow and they will be done within four days. On the other hand, the KCSE examinations will be done for a period of three weeks.
According to the circular, the KCSE grading session would last between the 27th of November 2023 and the 15th of December, 2023.
Students who completed their first term in the previous academic year and attended teacher preparation programs will start their second semester on the 23rd of January which will run till the 21st of April.
The third term will then start on the 8th of May and end on August 11 following a two-week break.
