BOMs Warned against Defending Teachers Who Defile Girls in Schools

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has blamed Boards of Management (BOM) of secondary schools for defending teachers who are involved in the defilement of female students.

While attending a five-day Sub-County Directors workshop held at ARC Hall in Egerton University, the TSC Field Service Directorate official Cecilia Musyoki revealed that the Commission’s disciplinary department had received information about many cases of teachers who had defiled school girls in various parts of the country but were being defended by their respective school BOMs against prosecution.

She revealed that BOM members had colluded with parents and guardians of the minor to settle the cases locally hence denying the minor justice.

Musyoki warned that the Commission will ensure that any BOM members who are involved in defending the teachers are nabbed and arraigned in court to discourage others from engaging in such criminal acts.

“As TSC we cannot allow any of the teachers in both secondary schools and primary schools to be involved in immoral behaviour,” said Musyoki.

She advised teachers to be professional as stipulated in the TSC Code of Ethics and in the same way school girls should behave accordingly and avoid such incidents which could lead to such cases happening.

“School girls must also dress well while in school. Some of our girls are wearing miniskirts which should not happen in our schools. We expect them to put on official school uniform,” added Musyoki.
