TSC Reveals 26,629 More Teachers Contracted To Manage Exams

According to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), 26,629 more teachers have been contracted to administer, manage and mark national examinations due to the increased number of candidates.

227, 629 teachers will oversee the upcoming national examinations of the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and the Kenya Certificate Secondary Education (KCSE). The examinations are scheduled to commence on March 22.

This is an increase from the 2021,000 teachers involved in overseeing the 2019 national examinations.

TSC made the announcement through the TSC CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia.

1,195, 725 candidates will sit for the KCPE examination as compared to the 1,088,986 in the year 2019. The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has 752,981 candidates registered for the national examinations as compared to the 699,745 candidates who registered in 2019.

Examination centers have been increased to 10,437 from the previous 10,287 for KCSE. For KCPE we now have 28,467 from the previous 27,809 in 2019.

Cabinet Secretary for Education George Magoha warned yesterday against malpractices in the national examinations.

“The Ministry is with knowledge of plans by some center managers to retain teachers employed by the Board of Management (BoM) in schools to help in cheating in the national examinations. This shall not be entertained,” said CS Magoha.
