Kakamega High School Parents without School and Penalty Fees Forced To Return Home with Their Kids

Parents who turned up with their children at Kakamega High School were turned away if they did not have the required penalty and school fees.

The School’s administration had informed parents that each learner was to turn up without fail but with the set penalty amount of Sh. 9,800 and then clear school fees up to the second term.

According to the school administration, students who do not pay the set penalty amount and clear fees up to the second term will be barred from returning to school.

Kakamega High School was closed indefinitely following a fire incident that occurred on the 6th of November 2021.

As indicated in a notice to parents, Form 4 learners were told to report yesterday and Form 4 parents turned up with their children early as indicated with the notice having informed parents to report to school by 8:00 am.

However, before entering the school compound parents were directed to produce bank receipts to confirm whether they had cleared with both school fees and the set penalty amount.

Police officers were also present at the main gate to ensure parents to not force entry into the school compound.

The only parents who were allowed into the school are those who had paid and had bank slips as evidence.

Most of the parents who could not stump up the amounts complained over unnecessary pressure placed on them in such a short space of time to pay such a huge penalty fee.

“How can I come up with that money in just a few days when I also have to put food on the table for my family?” said one of the parents who chose to be anonymous.

However, the school’s administration said that the figure was fair and did not exceed the losses that parents are claiming.

Some parents also felt that the presence of the parents in the school intimidated them.
