According to Mr. Stanley Mutai, the County Disaster Management Officer, the fire was contained and prevented from reaching the other building.

“The fire has been contained by members of the public, students, and fire marshals from the county government of Bomet,” Said Mr. Mutai.

No casualties have been reported from the incident.

However, the assessment of the value of property damaged through the inferno is yet to be established.

It is reported that the burnt down dormitory accommodated 288 students.

Just last week, Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha banned bottled sanitizers from schools.

The CS attributed the recent fire incidents to being caused by the sanitizers.

Prof Magoha advised the teachers to take and keep any portable sanitizer from the students.

“It should be taken (small-bottle sanitizers), and kept, and given when the child is leaving school”, advised the Cabinet Secretary on Wednesday, at Our Lady of Fatima Girls Secondary School in Kariobangi North, after meeting education stakeholders

This month alone, over 5 secondary schools have been involved in the fire incidences.
