Two people arrested as 15 students sneak from Mwongori Secondary School

Matutu Police Station police arrested fifteen students yesterday from Mwongori Secondary School in Borabu Sub-County. The group comprised of 11 boys and 4 girls who had sneaked from school. The students were arrested in Kijauri town after they sneaked from school.

The students had entered a rental house belonging to one Joshua Okioga, 24, in Kijauri town. The students are believed to have sheltered from the rain. However, members of the public sensed something amiss and swiftly locked the students in the house from the outside and alerted the police.

Nyamira County commissioner Amos Mariba confirmed the incident to the media today. He revealed that there were 15 students arrested alongside two others who were not students, Robert Ouko and Robert Misati. They arrested were detained in the Matutu police station.

“Police recovered liquor of vodka type and rolls of Cannabis Sativa though upon investigation, the students were not drunk and the school principal of Mwongori High school confirmed that the students had sneaked out of school compound as no teacher had allowed them to go home,” the county commissioner said.

“The police will handle the non-students, as the school management deals with the students,” added Mariba.

“I want to thank members of the public for being resourceful and for being swift in giving helpful information as the students could have engaged in drug abuse and substance abuse and then be eventually be sexually assaulted.”

This incident follows two cases of student misconduct in schools. One student in Kisii High School stabbed two teachers while another from Mokwerero Secondary attempted to slash the deputy head principal.
