Zetech University Don Gives Advice to Graduates

Zetech University’s Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Njenga Munene has implored students and graduates that they need to integrate their skills with technology for them to have an advantage.

He called on them to be innovative with relevant technology that will enable them to have a competitive edge in the job market.

While addressing the congregation during a graduation ceremony held at the university’s Ruiru campus, he told the 1,786 graduands that they need to apply their soft skills in their areas of specialization and create a network of relevant people for them to succeed.

“Soft skills go beyond technical skills and we must endeavour to be techno-preneurial because there is a wide application of technology in many areas.

As a university, we have already established an entrepreneurial ecosystem incubation hub which helps us incubate students’ business ideas and innovations and later graduate them to industrial parks. Again we have introduced entrepreneurship as a unit for all Zetech learners to equip them with relevant skills that they can apply to establish their own income-generating ventures,” said Prof Munene.

Prof Munene advised the graduands that it will not be easy after they graduate urging them to face challenges ad have a positive attitude to be able to overcome them.

The VS said that the institution had invested a lot of resources in advancing Information and Technological (ICT) training and nurturing innovations.

The VC also revealed that the university’s first Master’s Programme was due to the high demand for the programme.

He revealed that the Master’s programme covers six thematic areas including Strategic Management, Procurement and Logistics, Human Resource Management, entrepreneurship and Innovation and Business Intelligence and Analysis.

“We are committed to delivering a quality programme to our students. We have entered into partnerships with various industry players who will give our students industrial exposure as they study. This will ensure that we produce competent and innovative leaders in their respective fields,” said Munene.

On her part, Deputy VC Dr Alice Njuguna said that the university has adopted a strategic plan that is realistic that will guide the university towards the leading edge in academic and research excellence.

“We want our graduates to be resourceful and live in integrity so that they can be a problem-solving group that can make meaningful contributions to the community and the country as a whole. We are training job creators, not job seekers,” she said.

The principal in charge of Tricent Medical College also uttered similar sentiments, saying that emerging technologies are shaping the future and urged the youth to seek to be equipped to be able to participate in the digital economy.
