Public Holidays That Will Disrupt the School Calendar This October
As public and private schools across the country are celebrating Huduma Day today the 10th of October, the country is set to celebrate two more holidays after today’s holiday.
Huduma Day which was formerly known as Moi Day is a holiday celebrated every 10th of October every year.
The day’s renaming is relatively new but is linked to former President Daniel Arap Moi’s reign.
In previous years, Kenyans used to Celebrate Moi Day on the 10th of October.
However, in December 2019, the Cabinet approved the renaming of Moi Day to Huduma Day.
Today with Huduma Day being a national holiday, is a day off for the general population, schools and most businesses being closed.
The other public holiday is Mashujaa Day which will be held on 20th Thursday, October 2022. This is also a school day and all public schools shall be closed.
Mashujaa Day used to be known as Kenyatta Day and was celebrated in honour of Kenya’s first President of Kenya Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.
Diwali known as the festival of lights marks the time when millions of Hindus, Sikhs and Jains worldwide celebrate the triumph of good over evil with beautiful rituals such as festive lights, sweet delicacies, family gatherings and fireworks.
In Kenya, this day is honoured and is a gazette as a public holiday. Schools have undergone many disruptions including the novel Coronavirus pandemic and the recently-held general elections.
However, schools have managed to continue and the academic is set to normalize by 2023 with no adjustments being made on the school calendar to accommodate the lost time.
