TSC Solves anomalies Captured in the 2017 – 2021 CBA
The Teachers Service Commission has moved to solve anomalies captured in the implementation of the 2017-2021 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
Following the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) raising the issue, TSC confirmed the issue to be true in a letter dated the 12th of July 2021.
The Senior Master IV’s salary was not captured appropriately in the previous CBA (CBA 2017 – 2021).
As per the Conversion Tables, the minimum salary notches under the now-expired CBA were captured at Sh. 627,696 – 667,248 instead of Sh. 667,248 – 784,000.
TSC CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia sent a letter to KUPPET Secretary-General, Akelo Misori, where she addressed the issue, saying that the preparation of Conversion tables, the salary scales were structured such that a teacher would get to 4th Notch in the Fourth (4) Year according to the CBA review cycle.
It was viewed that every Fourth Year, the Commission would review the salary component of the CBA in every review cycle and teachers will then convert to new salaries before reaching the 7th notch.
Now that TSC has known about the anomaly, it is expected that they will revise the promotion letters for Senior Master to reflect the correct salary scale for the teachers.
“In view of the new CBA, which elongates the salary notches, the Commission will revise the Promotion Letters for the Senior Master IV teachers to reflect the correct salary at Sh. 667,248 – 784, 000,” said Dr. Macharia, the TSC CEO.
