The 2020 Early Childhood Development Education ECDE and Special Needs Education SNE April Examinations by Kenya National Examinations Council KNEC have been postponed until further notice.

Kenya National Examinations Council issued a circular dated 30th March 2020 to all principals of colleges offering 2020 ECDE and SNE examinations citing the postponement.

KNEC CEO, Dr. Mercy Karogo, said the postponement of the examination was in line with the president Uhuru’s directive of shutting down all the learning institutions so as to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

“We wish to inform you that the 2020 ECDE (proficiency, certificate, and diploma) that is scheduled to take place between 12th and 16th April 2020 and diploma in Special Needs Examination (SNE) scheduled to be done between 12th and 23rd April 2020 have been postponed until further notice”, said the CEO in the Circular.

The Council specified that the new examination dates will be released after the government reopens colleges.

The Knec’s move to cancel examinations was expected as almost all government institutions have been shut down, or employees working from home.

Late last year, the government stopped the colleges from admitting new ECDE students.

However, it came as a sigh of relief to all year-one ECDE training teachers after the Permanent Secretary of Education Dr. Belio Kipsang gave green light to Colleges to continue with ECDE training and KNEC examinations preparations that were set for April 2020.
