An accident occurred in Moi’s Bridge in Soy Sub-County, Eldoret County, when 12 ECDE pupils of Moi’s Bridge Baptist Bibal Mission and Nursery School fell into a pit latrine.
According to Anette Ndalo Nasimiyu, a teacher to the pupils, the 12 children were playing around the pit latrine during lunch break.
“I was in class taking lunch with others, and the pupils had also left for lunch. I didn’t know they were back and were playing around the school,” said Madam Ndalo.
She reported that one pupil rushed to inform her that some pupils had fallen into a pit latrine.
“I rushed to the scene to find the pupils had fell on the side where there was no toilet,” added Madam Ndalo.
The teacher says she then screamed to draw the attention of the neighbors who came to the rescue of the young Angeles.
The neighbors used a bucket to rescue the kids before rushing them to hospital for medical attention.
Mr Fanuel Nasio, Soy Sub-county divisional police commander (OCPD), confirmed the incident.
“We are still investigating the case,” said the OCPD while detailing the incident.
As a warning, Mr Nasio said, “Someone will have to be held responsible for the accident, because you can not allow more than 10 people to get into a toilet at the same time”.
The OCPD confirmed that all the children were rescued from the latrine, and were rushed to Moi’s Bridge Health center.
