Unknown People Murder Masogo Secondary School Teacher
Unknown people have murdered a Masogo Secondary School teacher in cold blood. The school is located in Kisumu County.
It has been alleged that the suspected robbers had been on board a motorcycle at the Nyamasaria area in Kisumu East when they attacked the late Edwin Okoth before killing him.
After getting wind of the cold-blood murder, Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) members in the Kisumu region have expressed their concern over fatal attacks on teachers, especially the most recent one that occurred to one of their members leading to death.
Kisumu’s KUPPET Executive Secretary Mr Zablon Awange laid the blame on security officials for not taking the security of teachers with the required seriousness.
Awange implored the county police commander to do more to ensure that the security of teachers and their lives is guaranteed.
Similar sentiments have also been echoed elsewhere in the county by other leaders.
For instance, the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Kisumu East Executive Secretary David Obuon raised concern over the recent attacks on teachers.
He said that thugs had imposed a curfew in the area and that nobody can move freely in the area past 8 pm.
The area Member of Parliament (MP) Shabir Ahmed also blamed security officers for not doing enough to protect residents from attacks.
Shabir said that thugs had taken over some parts of the constituency and had made life unbearable for the locals.
At the same time, Nyanza’s regional police commander Mr. John Karanja Muihuri made changes at the Kisumu East police division.
He also pointed to the overstay of some officers as one of the reasons security has been compromised in the area.
