Nairobi, Kenya – The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced an exciting opportunity for aspiring educators across Kenya, unveiling 20,000 internship vacancies for junior secondary school teachers. The positions are aimed at bolstering the teaching capacity required to support the rollout of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in junior secondary schools.
Application Window and Requirements
The application window for these internships is now open, with submissions strictly limited to online applications. Interested candidates must apply by midnight on 6th November 2024. Applications should be submitted through the TSC website at www.tsc.go.ke or directly via teachersonline.tsc.go.ke.
To qualify, applicants must:
- Be Kenyan citizens.
- Hold a Diploma in Education with a minimum mean grade of C+ in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) as well as in two teaching subjects.
- Be registered with the TSC.
The Commission encourages applicants with equivalent qualifications to verify their eligibility on the TSC website. Additionally, candidates trained in technical learning areas or subjects with valid TSC registration numbers are encouraged to apply.
Internship Program Details and General Information
The Teacher Internship Program is a one-year initiative designed to help unemployed, qualified teachers gain hands-on experience in classroom settings. Successful candidates will receive mentorship and coaching, enabling them to develop their skills and improve their teaching practices.
However, the internship is non-remunerative; teacher interns attached to junior secondary schools will receive a monthly stipend of Kshs. 20,000, subject to statutory deductions. Upon completion, interns will be awarded a certificate recognizing their successful participation in the program.
To ensure a smooth recruitment process, the TSC has outlined the following general requirements:
- Manual applications will not be accepted.
- Candidates must be unemployed, with no record of past disciplinary issues with the TSC.
- Applicants must present original academic and professional certificates if shortlisted for interviews.
- Successful candidates must possess a Personal Accident Insurance cover, which is mandatory for the duration of the internship.
Selection and Posting Process
The selection of candidates will be strictly based on merit and will consider the number of vacancies in each county. Successful applicants will be posted to junior secondary schools within the counties where they are interviewed, with the final decision on placements resting solely with the Commission. Importantly, successful candidates will not have the option to choose specific schools for their postings.
For detailed information on the subjects required at the junior secondary level, applicants can visit the TSC website.
Required Documents
As part of the application process, candidates are expected to upload the following documents:
- A copy of the National ID or Passport.
- A TSC Registration Certificate or a print-out from the TSC online portal as proof of registration.
- A copy of KCSE and KCPE certificates (or their equivalents).
- The highest academic qualification certificate.
- A copy of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Personal Identification Number (PIN).
Equal Opportunity and Fraud Awareness
The Teachers Service Commission, as an equal opportunity employer, upholds the constitutional rights of all applicants. Persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
In line with ethical standards, TSC has emphasized that the recruitment process is free of charge. The Commission has issued a warning to applicants to beware of fraudsters who might attempt to solicit money under the guise of facilitating recruitment. Any suspicious activities should be reported immediately to the nearest TSC office, police station, or through TSC’s hotline numbers: Director Staffing (0202892193) or Deputy Director Staffing (0202892131). Fraudulent activities can also be reported via email to dirstaffing@tsc.go.ke or ddstaffing@tsc.go.ke.
