The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has advertised 844 posts for teachers who shall work in Garissa, Wajir and Mandera counties.
In a re-advertisement posted on Monday, TSC revealed that it was seeking to employ 764 primary schools and 80 secondary school teachers who shall be recruited to work on permanent and pensionable terms.
TSC also re-advertised 386 teaching vacancies for both primary and secondary schools on contractual terms to fill available slots in Garissa, Wajir and Mandera counties.
Candidates are required to meet the following criteria:
- Be a Kenyan citizen
- Be coming from Garissa, Mandera or Wahir counties
Interested candidates and qualified candidates have been directed to submit their applications online through the Teachers Service Commission’s website www.tsc.go.ke under ‘Careers’ or teachersonline.tsc.go.ke. Applications are supposed to have been made by the 7th of July, 2022 at the latest.
“We thank the government for providing funding resources to allow us to recruit an average of 5,000 teachers annually for our public schools. However, there is still a shortage of 114,581 teachers in primary and post-primary institutions,” said the TSC Chief Executive Officer Dr Nancy Macharia.
The TSC boss revealed the shortage has been contributed to by the government’s 100 per cent transition policy. The 100 per cent transition seeks to ensure that all learners who complete their primary school education are fully enrolled in secondary schools.
“This is due to the registration of new schools and increased enrolment caused by the 100 per cent transition policy,” added Dr Nancy Macharia.
