Police Arrest Sacco Driver for Attempting to Rape Student
A Matatu driver was arrested by the Nyeri Police following allegations of attempting to rape a 2020 KCSE girl student.
The 2NK Sacco driver aged 52 years, and identified as Mr. Washington Nderitu, is alleged to have tried to rape the student on Wednesday night.
According to the Police reports, the form four schoolgirl finished her last KCSE examination paper on Monday the 19th of April 2021, at Githunduti Mixed Day Secondary School in Mathira, Nyeri county.
She then left the school the same day and boarded a matatu to travel to Nairobi, and then on Wednesday, head to Homa Bay County.
Covid-19 Travel Restrictions Prevented the Girl Proceeding to Nairobi
However, following the current Covid-19 travel restrictions, she was unable to proceed to Nairobi as the vehicle she was travelling in was stopped at Kenol Police Roadblock.
Due to frustrations, the vehicle turned around and headed to Nyeri where they arrived late.
In an attempt to confuse the schoolgirl, the 52-year old driver drove around Nyeri town as she was the only passenger on board.
According to the Police, the Matatu driver advised the student to spend a night within the town rather than boarding a Nakuru bound bus.
The driver then took the girl to his house with the intention of defiling her.
The girl reported to the police that she managed to escape. She then dialed the emergency numbers.
Following the girl’s tip, the law reinforcers set a trap for the driver.
The man was arrested and taken to police custody.
