Nyamira County Commissioner Directs Quick Probe into the Murder of a Headteacher
Nyamira County Commissioner Michael Lesimamu has ordered a speedy investigation into the cause of the death of Getengereirie SDA Primary School’s 47-year-old head teacher Ezekiel Getangwa whose body was found in the home of a relative.
According to the deceased’s wife Mrs. Glady’s Bonareri, her husband had gone missing from their home in Egesieri on the 30th of December 2022. She then reported this to the police who launched a search.
With tips from members of the public, the police went to the home of a nurse whom they found absent. They then forced the door open and found the rotting body of the teacher wrapped in a carpet and dumped in the poultry pen.
The police revealed that the body had several mutilations, indicating that the deceased had been murdered but the motive of the killing could not be established immediately.
It seems that he was hacked with sharp objects several times before he succumbed to his wounds,” said one of the police officers.
His body was then moved to Nyamira Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary pending a post-mortem and further investigations.
No suspect has since been arrested and anyone with information on the issue has been asked to volunteer to the police to ensure that the culprits face justice.
County Commissioner who addressed the public at Nyamaiya Shopping Centre in Nyamira South Sub-County issued a warning to the public against hiding under the cover of the festive period to commit heinous crimes.
“The Christmas and New Year’s celebrations should be used by our people to bless others instead of eliminating them,” he said.
The death of the headteacher comes less than three months after the death of Rangenyo Girl’s Secondary School Principal Mrs. Lydiah Onyoni.
She was assaulted by unknown people who had invaded her house, assaulted and left her for dead. She later died in Kisii Hospital while undergoing treatment two days later.
