KUCCPS addresses University Application Dates and Intake
The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has cleared the air regarding application dates for the 2023 intake.
The placement body did this through a notice that was shared on Sunday, the 26th of February 2023 where they said that the 2023 application process had not yet started, contrary to earlier reports.
Further, KUCCPS also implored candidates and stakeholders to frequently check the KUCCPS website for any updates.
Earlier in the week the Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu had revealed that the intake process for 2023 was set to start soon. However, CS Machogu did not set any specific dates.
Speaking during a conference on university funding on Thursday the 23rd of February, CS Machogu said that plans were ongoing to develop criteria that would be used in the allocation of funds for capitation and other finances.
On her part, KUCCPS Chief Executive Officer Agnes Wahome explained that the placement board was working to ensure that the placement process was going to be a smooth one.
She also revealed that KUCCPS would open the application portal, but this would involve following an elaborate procedure, especially at a time when the education sector was set to undergo extensive reforms.
According to the KUCCPS CEO, the placement body has to receive the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) results from the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) for scrutiny.
The placement body received a list of programmes offered in universities and institutions of higher learning. After this KUCCPS then conducts a process intended to verify whether the courses are accredited as a precautionary measure.
Confusion over the application dates came about amid new proposals for government-funded university education was uncertain. The new proposals had been fronted by the Kenya Kwanaa government.
KUCCPS was, therefore, forced to issue clarifications on several occasions to address unconfirmed information from various sources.
KUCCPS has now revealed that the process has not yet started and that candidates and stakeholders should check frequently check the KUCCPS website for updates.
The decision over government-funded education is yet to be determined owing to the new proposals issued as part of the reforms. KUCCPS will issue the dates once they have completed their operations.
