Kibera Court Charges Teacher with Defiling 14-Year-Old over Past Papers

A Kibera Court has charged a teacher with defiling a 14-year-old student in violation of the Sexual Offences Act.

Kipkemoi Sammy Melly was charged before Kibera’s Senior Principal Magistrate, Philip Mutua where he pleaded not guilty.

According to the charge sheet the offence was committed between the months of October 2021 and July 2022 at the Nairobi aquariums in Lang’ata Sub-County of Nairobi County.

The teacher was charged with committing an indecent act with a minor which is in violation of the Sexual Offences Act on the second count.

According to detectives, Kipkemoi Sammy Melly allegedly committed the crime after the girl went to his house to pick up some past papers.

However, he denied the charges and pleaded with the court through his lawyer to be released on cash bail.

The lawyer implored the court to grant his client a lenient bond term, claiming that the accused was not a flight risk.

The magistrate released him on a Kshs. 300,000 bond and ordered the case be heard later this month for a preliminary hearing.

This comes after the Teachers Service Commission released a list of teachers who have been deregistered for violating the Commission’s code of conduct.

The 73 teachers who have been deregistered will be barred from working in any institution of education.

The Commission advised the public that the teachers have ceased to be teachers, and are not allowed to teach or help Iinteaching in any school. The above-listed teachers can only be allowed to teach if they are reinstated back to the teachers’ register by the commission.

Why are teachers Deregistered?

Immoral behaviour committed by the now deregistered teachers includes and is not limited to engaging in sexual intercourse, sodomy, lesbianism and sexual harassment. Infamous conduct includes drunkenness, fighting, conduct or behaviour that contradicts the Constitution, forgery/presentation of forged documents, mismanagement, misappropriation of funds, etc.

Teachers should be wary of going against the rules and regulations set by their employer. The sacked teachers should serve as an example that the Commission is intolerant of unprofessionalism.
