Dr. Nancy Macharia, the Teachers Service Commission CEO, has ordered all the teachers to report back to schools on Monday the 28th of September to prepare for the reopening of Schools.
The TSC CEO was addressing the media after attending the education stakeholders meeting at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development in Nairobi.
This meeting had been convened by the Cabinet Secretary of Education Prof George Magoha, to deliberate on Dr. Sarah Ruto’s 10-member team recommendations to reopen schools on October 19, 2020.
” We have deliberated on this as a committee and we are asking our teachers to report back to school on Monday the 28th of September to prepare for the eventual reopening of schools,’ said Dr. Macharia.
“I want to thank the great teachers of this country, for the great work they have been doing. They have been assisting our students to navigate this Covid-19 pandemic”, added Nancy Macharia.
Dr. Nancy Macharia clarified that teachers can report to schools any time between now and the 28th of September.
The CEO assured Kenyans that teachers are very much prepared to teach and recover the lost time.
Nancy Macharia’s orders is a likely indication that the Ministry of Education will adopt Dr. Sarah Ruto’s task force recommendations.
The committee suggested that primary school pupils in standards 7 and 8, and the secondary school students in form 3 and 4, be the first to reopen schools on the 19th of October 2020.

With these recommendations, the 2021 academic calendar should then begin from either May or June next year.
The latest task-force’s recommendations will be a reprieve to many students who did not like the idea of repeating the class.
