Homa Bay Boy Who Scored 373 Marks with Mentally Unstable Mother Appeals for Help

John Felix Osuro who sat for his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination in March 2021 fears he could miss out on admission to secondary school because of a lack of school fees.

The teenager scored 373 marks in the KCPE examinations and was also the top student at Pundo Primary School.

The boy said that he was hoping to join Maranda High School in Siaya County while harboring ambitions of studying an engineering course at the university level.

“I was called to Sawagongo High School in Siaya. However, I fear I might not join any school due to a lack of fees. My grandparents cannot afford to foot my school fees,” he said.

According to the boy, he does not know where his father is since he left for Nairobi when he was young and did not return since that time.

“While growing up, I was made to know that my mother has been living with mental illness. I was told the problem began after she gave birth to me. I have been living with my grandparents, who have been like my parents given that my father disappeared,” said the boy.

Felix revealed that he tried to trace his father using a mobile phone but was not successful as he never hung up his calls and then switched off his phone.

“My primary school days were difficult. Staying with grandparents requires one to be hardworking. However, I thank God because my grandmother has been working harder to ensure we eat every day,” said Felix.

According to Mr. Boaz Otieno, his teacher, the young boy has a lot of potential in his academics. The teacher revealed that despite the hardship the boy went through, he still managed to get good results in his examinations and even emerged as the best student in his class.

“The boy has huge potential. I was very happy when the results came out. I believe he has a great future ahead of him but only if he can get someone who can get hold of his hands. Through this, he can surprise many people for sure,” said Mr. Boaz Otieno.

At the moment, Felix is appealing for help from well-wishers to help him join a secondary school and achieve his dreams.
