The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has issued an additional requirement for the process of registering for the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).
The critical information was issued via a circular dated the 25th of February, 2023 whereby the Council directed schools to register students for this year’s KCPE and the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) Examinations.
The Council has revealed that this year’s registration of candidates will end on the 30th of March with this year’s KCPE set to be the last of its kind.
Heads of Institutions (HOIs) have been urged to confirm the accuracy of all candidate’s data including their gender, citizenship, year of birth, Correct spellings and order of candidates’ names as indicated in their Birth Certificates. The subjects registered for Information on the different categories of candidates with special needs and disabilities (i.e.) Visual Impairments (totally blind who require Braille/Low Vision); hearing impairment and [physical impairment).
The Examiner had not implemented the new requirement which it claims will make the registration valid.
KNEC has now added more details that it requires about the candidates’ parents including their parents’ names and cell phone numbers.
Many schools had already completed the registration of their candidates and gone as far as publishing the nominal rolls meaning that the requirement will have to be somehow included.
In the same circular, examination centres with fewer than thirty candidates will be hosted in examination centres identified by sub-county directors in line with the provided criteria.
Schools with fewer than five candidates are not allowed to register candidates as independent examination centres for the 2023 national examinations.
KNEC directed that such schools should work with their local sub-county directors of education (SCDEs) to select approved KNEC examination centres with more than five (5) candidates to admit their students.
Heads of Institutions were directed to deliver complete registration documentation for the centres to the offices of their respective SCDEs on the 3rd of April 2023 for verification by SCDEs and officers from KNEC before being submitted.
Registration Dates for Grade 6 Examinations Revealed
On Thursday, KNEC announced that the start of registration of Grade Six students for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) began on the 3rd of March and shall end in April 2023.
Consequently, parents and teachers have been encouraged to ensure that the student’s information is recorded in time. The government will not provide any extension period.
The registration exercise will be done online through the KNEC portal.
“Registration of learners for the 2023 Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA) commenced on March 3, 2023.
“The exercise will end on April 3, 2023. Centre Managers should note that no learner will be registered after April 3,” read part of the statement.
Schools were also warned against registering ghost learners with KNEC warning centre managers on the same.
All learners being registered for KPSEA must be bonafide school-going learners in their respective schools transitioning to Grade Six.
“Registration of ghost learners constitutes assessment malpractice, which attracts sanctions, including de-registration of the school as a KNEC Assessment centre,” added the statement.
