Here are the Top Courses Soon-To-Be ‘Freshers’ Shall Be Studying at UoN

The University of Nairobi commonly abbreviated as UoN is revered world-over. Following the universities and colleges placement exercise, a number of KCSE 2020 candidates have been selected to join the famous institution to study a variety of courses.

UoN released a statement on Wednesday the 1st of September revealing information on the students admitted to the institution.

The institution revealed that they had admitted the top student in last year’s KCSE examination. Wanjala has been admitted to pursue a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at the university.

Wanjala is among the 122 students selected to study Medicine as well as the runners-up in the KCSE 2020 examination Wasonga Allan Udoma.

The KCSE 2020 top candidate did his KCSE examination from Murang’a High School coming out on top with 87.334 points. Following closely was Wasonga and Sharon Chepng’eno whom both attained 87.173 points in the 2020 KCSE examination.

In an interview, Wanjala has revealed that he was expecting to perform well but did not expect to be the top candidate in Kenya.

Besides, the top candidate revealed that he held a dream of studying Medicine at the University of Nairobi (UoN) and had ambitions of being a surgeon before specializing in cancer treatment and management at a later date.

“When I was in Form 4, I wanted to be the best though I, realistically did not expect to be the top candidate. I would like to study medicine at UoN. I had applied for medicine and Engineering,” revealed Wanjala.

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) placed around 13 top KCSE 2020 candidates at the University of Nairobi (UoN) to study Bachelor of Science in Medicine.

The top girl nationally, Sharon Chepngeno Terer, shall study Dental surgery at the university. Sharon had a mean score of 87.173 in her KCSE 2020 examination from Kenya High School.

Out of the 869 top students in the 2020 KCSE examination, 360 of them will be admitted at UoN this September to study various degree courses.

KUCCPS placed 6,407 students to join the University of Nairobi to study 60 different degree programmes at the university.

Out of the 6,407 learners, 182 of them will study a course in Bachelor of Economics and Statistics while 201 students got admitted to the institution to study Bachelor of Law.

In other programmes, 66 students shall undertake Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, 61 to pursue Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (61), Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronic Engineering got 72 students while Bachelor of Arts (Journalism and Media Studies) had 79 students admitted to pursue the programme.

New students in universities are commonly referred to as ‘freshers’. UoN freshers shall join the institution starting from the 20th of September, 2021.
